Kaminke

Kamminke is one of the oldest fishing villages on the island of Usedom. It is located by the Szczecin Lagoon, at the Polish border. From the 17th century, the inhabitants of the colony made a living from fishing. They lived in thatched-roofed huts that can be seen in Kamminke to this day. The village is known for breathtaking views - some houses are located on over 20-meter cliffs that surround the bay of the Lagoon. In the middle of Kamminke, there is a viewpoint from which you can see Świnoujście and the Szczecin Lagoon. One of the streets only 210 meters long starts at the height of 6 and ends at as much as 24 meters above sea level. Above the waters of the Lagoon, there is a small fishing port, where yachts and motorboats with tourists make their way in the summer season. Next to it is a small beach with an unguarded beach, a small field for caravans, a spacious parking lot, a grassy field for football and volleyball. It is worth knowing that in Kamminke is the highest hill on the island of Usedom (71 m a.s.l.) Golm with the German Cemetery of War Victims, where victims of the Allied carpet raid on Świnoujście are buried in 1944. Over 20,000 graves make it the largest war cemetery in Mecklenburg Vorpommern and one of the largest in Germany.
